On July 7th 2023 I am joining a guided walking challenge to walk the 109-mile Cleveland Way in 6 days in memory of my daughter Maddy.
Maddy was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and heart failure in November 2016 and underwent two heart transplants at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2017. She died in August 2017.
I am hoping to raise awareness of Cardiomyopathy since, according to a survey carried out by the charity Cardiomyopathy UK in 2022, 53% of people who responded were diagnosed initially with a non-heart related condition when they first went to their GP with Cardiomyopathy symptoms.
Any money raised will be used to support Cardiomypathy UK, the only charity in the UK supporting children, young people and adults with the life-limiting heart condition cardiomyopathy. The charity provides support and information, campaigns for better access to quality treatment and saves lives through raising awareness and providing hope through shaping research.
